Pietra dura (Framed)
We just framed this, the amzing part it is not a painting but a Pietra dura, which is a term for the inlay technique of using cut and fitted, highly-polished colored stones to create images. It is considered a decorative art. The stonework, after the work is assembled loosely, is glued stone-by-stone to a substrate after having previously been "sliced and cut in different shape sections; and then assembled together so precisely that the contact between each section was practically invisible."

Groupings
A few years back it was common to hang groupings so every frame would show in its entirety. Currently, it is fashionable to hang frames lower, often hiding portions behind furniture or accessories. This technique may be more about adding an architectural element to the wall versus showcasing the art.

Bedroom Makeover
Today's post is courtesy of Eddie Ross. In this bedroom makeover, he included his client's initial "H" from the Biltmore alphabet available at http://www.artthatfits.com/Art/Search.aspx?compname=3452. What a great way to personalize a room. For a different style try the Rodney white alphabet at http://www.artthatfits.com/Art/Search.aspx?compname=1353.

Art you LOVE!
I always suggest to people to find art they love, not just something that happens to match the room. Also, do not get caught up in thinking all the frames have to match. Today's photo is from designer Maureen Bower. She shows us you can successfully create an interesting grouping with art that was not intended to go together.

More windows and little wall space
Due to the popularity of open floor plans and more windows, wall space in today's homes is sometimes at a premium. If you can't find a traditional wall, look at other vertical surfaces. In this photo we see framed pieces hanging on the side of a kitchen cabinet. The side of a bookcase may also be an option.
Picture framing 101
You take your artwork to a professional picture framer for that custom look that makes your artwork look even more amazing. The picture of an owl has a custom mat with a beautiful design cut in to it. The painting has a double frame on it, it gives yo a larger frame with a couple differnt looks and colors.

Built In SHelves
Built-in shelves take away wall space where you can hang framed art. This great solution from "Your Decorating Hotline" is to adjust the shelving so you can still display at least small and medium sized pieces within the shelving unit. Framed art mixes well with other dimensional pieces to add interest to the room.

Unique Groupings
Curvaceous Camelback Sofa
Update a classic shape with printed fabrics and pastel hues.
Painterly, feminine fabric covers the seat cushion and pairs well with the water-blue velvet on the main body. Rustic and modern tables give the room edge. "Antique furnishings are still part of the new-traditional look, but now a room is furnished with just one or two quirky antiques, not a whole suite of matching pieces that feels staid and stuffy," Smyth explains.

New Traditional Decorating TIps
New Traditional Decorating Tips
Pink & Red Living Room
Go ahead and clash colours for a young look.
Pink and red — formerly cantankerous colours — are just one example of analogous colours that make perfect mates in decorating today. A pop of blue and the mix of contemporary and vintage art add to the eclectic space by designer Miles Redd. "New traditional rooms have many of the hallmarks of timeless decorating, but with a few irreverent twists," says senior design editor Margot Austin.

Hang Pictures In A Stairway
Choosing what to hang in a stairway and how to hang it is a challenge for many people. Stairways are often a bridge between two very different spaces and possible different styles and color schemes. This grouping of family photos spotted on Design Hub is black and white so it solves the issue of color. Displaying the frames with no space between them is a stylish look.

Display Shelves
For the past few years display shelves have become popular for displaying framed art and photos. Typically we see shorter shelves, but this photo shows a much longer shelf, accommodating more custom framing. With everything resting on that same line, it brings a clean and organized look to the grouping.

Corner Groupling
When it comes time to hang a grouping, we tend to think in terms of using one flat wall surface. Doing so may limit our options for where and how much we can hang. This clever idea from LaCondesa blog shows a grouping wrapping around a corner. Whether you have an elaborate grouping to hang, or just a pair of framed art pieces, consider corners.
