Framing Ideas

With thousands of frames and mats to choose from, the design possibilities are unlimited. By mixing and matching them in different combinations, you can hand pick frame designs to accentuate the best attributes in any piece of art.

What you will be framing plays an important role in how it will be framed. For example, a canvas is generally framed quite differently than a print on paper, even if the print is of the same image.

The subject, era, style and color scheme of the items being framed should also be factored in. When each of them is carefully considered, the resulting frame design is more likely to be in sync with the art.

There is a time and a place for framing to be of a historical nature while in other situations it is fun to explore new options. Typically any historical art, documents and artifacts are framed to look authentic to their period. If a new piece of art was painted in an old world style, it may provide the perfect opportunity to update the look with a present day frame design.

Custom framing provides you with an opportunity to get exactly what you want. You get to choose what to frame, as well as the color scheme, style and proportions.

Original German Santa By Scott Smith At Rucus Studio

This is an original piece of art created by Scott Smith of Rucus Studio. This work was selected by Early American Life Magazine to be shown in their 2009 Holiday Directory. He appears on page 47 of the December issue. The Santa is made of composition and finished in the antique German style from the turn of the century. His coat is brown vintage velvet trimmed in mohair from an antique carriage blanket. Santa has a basket of toys and holds an original doll made of paper-mache. The stocking hanging on the basket is a repoduction of an antique stocking from Scott's personal collection. The piece stands approximately 15.5" tall x 8.5" wide and is signed and dated by Scott Smith. Scott has also included a signed copy of the 2009 Early American Life Magazine Holiday Directory. Scott Smith Belsnickle @ Rucus Studio Arrives!

12/5/08 Scott is intrigued by antique Belsnickles and was inspired to create one of his own based on an advertising trade card. The card shows a Belsnickle dressed in a snow-covered blue robe and holding an unusual shaped Christmas tree. Scott tried to make this a literal translation of the illustration right down to the odd shaped tree with vintage glass ornaments. This piece is also a candy container with a tube mounted to his boots.

Grandma Moses Paintings & New Silky Soy Candles

11/05/2008 In the frame shop today we had an exciting opportunity to reframe two original Grandma Moses paintings. I have seen originals before in the Museum Of American Folk Art in New York City, and the Shelburne Museum in Vermont, never thinking 2 would show up in my frame shop. It was exciting to be able to actually see them up close. Mike Daily my professional picture framer did a excellent job, they turned out beautiful. We are Conservation Framers and they are now framed properly to last for at least another 100 years. One picture was titled "Falling Leaves" and the other "The Dam" they are both owned by a Denver couple and we are honored they chose us to handle their framing needs.
